The minning bee Andrena curvungula is specialised on plants of the bellflower family and prefers the genus Campanula, but also uses the genus Phyteuma (Westrich & Schmidt, 1987). Particularly striking is the scale-like hair on the thorax of the females. The thorax looks almost a little leathery. In order to collect enough food for a brood cell, A. curvungula needs at least 35 flowers of the spreading bellflower (Campanula patula) (Müller et al., 2006). As usual for Andrena species, nesting takes place in self-dug nests in the ground. On the Checklist of wild bees A. curvungula is classified as "endangered" throughout Germany. The genus Andrena is the most species-rich bee genus native to Germany. A total of 126 Andrena species are known in our country. This corresponds to about 20% of all German bee species.
